The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has organised a leadership training workshop for its directors and deputy directors aimed at sharpening their emotional intelligence to boost workplace productivity and promote a healthy organisational culture.
The workshop, held under the theme: “Inspirational leadership through emotional intelligence,” forms part of the Ministry’s broader initiative to strengthen leadership capacity among its senior management team.
Mr Jonathan Prince Cann, Managing Partner of JPCANN Associates Limited, facilitators of the training, drew a distinction between leadership and management while stressing the importance of self-awareness, purposeful communication, emotional regulation, and visionary leadership.
He explained that true leadership goes beyond administrative efficiency, urging participants to develop greater self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation. According to him, these qualities build trust, inspire teams, and sustain performance under pressure.
Participants were guided through reflective exercises to help them recognise their emotional triggers, understand team dynamics, and communicate with clarity and intentionality. They were also introduced to practical strategies to enhance interpersonal skills and lead with empathy in their respective roles.
Mr Vitus O. Langmagne, Director of Human Resource at the Ministry, lauded the high level of engagement, describing the workshop as “insightful and impactful.” He commended Mr Cann for his dynamic delivery and emphasised the need to institutionalise such programmes to sustain staff well-being and improve overall performance.
“The Ministry remains committed to continuous staff development and considers this workshop a strategic move towards nurturing a resilient and emotionally intelligent leadership team,” Mr Langmagne said, noting that the training would be held regularly to support organisational growth and development.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called for the removal of visa barriers across Africa to boost tourism, trade, and continental unity. Speaking at the launch of the Trans-African Tourism and Unity Campaign in Accra on August 18, 2025, he argued that Africa’s annual US$190 billion tourism revenue could be doubled with a visa-free policy.
The 163-day, 40,000-kilometre road journey across 39 African countries, led by former MP Ras Mubarak and endorsed by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, seeks to advance a visa-free Africa by 2030 in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063.
Mr Debrah urged participants to prioritise safety, while stressing that free movement would enhance cultural exchange, create jobs, and strengthen Africa’s shared identity.
The U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) is advancing naval science and technology through global partnerships, academic collaborations, and talent development.
Recent initiatives include joint work with the Royal Navy on computer vision for vessel maintenance, $750,000 Young Investigator Program grants to two Penn State professors, and multiple Dr. Delores M. Etter Awards for excellence in research. ONR is also expanding collaborations with universities such as Stony Brook to explore robotics, acoustics, and materials science.
These efforts highlight ONR’s focus on innovation, international cooperation, and preparing the next generation of naval researchers.
