Madagascar and the Indian Ocean are fast emerging as new frontiers in luxury tourism and superyacht exploration, a development that will be highlighted at the African Boating Conference scheduled for October 21–22, 2025, in Cape Town.
The event will feature a special session titled “Madagascar: The Next Frontier for Superyacht Discovery” led by two prominent voices in the region—Cyril Mahfahana of Madagascar Yacht Services and Christophe Caumes of Madascarenes. Their presentation will showcase the unique appeal of Madagascar’s coastlines, rare wildlife, and cultural blend of African and French heritage, positioning the island as a premium destination for adventurous high-end travellers.
Mahfahana, a former superyacht crew member, now heads Madagascar Yacht Services, a boutique agency that provides operational support and tailored itineraries to visiting vessels. He stressed the importance of reliability and seamless logistics, noting that Madagascar offers some of the world’s most extraordinary cruising grounds.
Caumes, a conservationist and expedition leader, previously managed a UNESCO-aspiring national park and now focuses on creating ethical, immersive experiences through Madascarenes. His upcoming luxury camp, located within a 1,400-hectare private reserve, underscores the region’s push toward eco-conscious, nature-based tourism.
The session will delve into tourism and marine access, infrastructure and services for superyachts, curated cultural and wildlife experiences, and the broader economic potential of developing Madagascar as a high-end destination.
According to Conference Marketing & Development Director, Maryanne Edwards, highlighting Madagascar and the Indian Ocean fits perfectly with the event’s mission to open new opportunities for Africa’s marine and coastal economies. The conference will bring together marina developers, yacht captains, tourism leaders, brokers, investors, and policymakers to explore how Africa can expand its role in the global blue economy.
