Mahama Secures $1bn Deals on Japan–Singapore Tour, Honoured with Orchid Recognition

President John Dramani Mahama has completed an official tour of Japan and Singapore, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, securing investments, and drawing development lessons from Asia’s most advanced economies.

In Japan, he addressed the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX) and the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, where he engaged the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, along with JICA and JETRO. Discussions focused on trade, industrialization, and infrastructure collaboration, highlighting Ghana’s need for resilient housing, sustainable urban planning, and renewable energy solutions.

The Singapore leg included courtesy calls on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as participation in the 8th Africa–Singapore Business Forum. Mr. Mahama positioned Ghana as Africa’s reliable gateway under the AfCFTA and outlined opportunities under his “Grow24, Make24, Show24, Connect24” strategy in agribusiness, logistics, clean energy, and technology.

Ghana secured over US$1 billion in commitments from Singaporean firms, including OLAM’s pasta processing plant, a green five-star Shangri-La hotel with an integrated mall and conference centre, and major projects in education, transport, and ports.

In recognition of his contribution to African development, the Singapore Botanic Gardens named a new orchid hybrid “Vanda John Dramani Mahama” in his honour.

The outcomes of this tour mark a significant boost for Ghana’s property and infrastructure sector, positioning the country for stronger investor confidence and sustainable urban growth.
