Libya’s Housing Ministry Moves to Address Collapsing Buildings in Tripoli

The Ministry of Housing and Construction in the Government of National Unity has stepped up efforts to tackle the growing concern of dilapidated and potentially collapsing buildings in Tripoli.
The Acting Minister Abu Bakr Owaidat held a meeting with the head of the Tripoli City Development Authority to examine the latest findings on the issue.
 
The discussions focused on technical and administrative reports detailing the ongoing survey and assessment process, as well as proposed solutions aimed at ensuring compliance with public safety standards and urban planning requirements, the Libyan News Agency reported.

The ministry stressed that urgent intervention is needed to prevent risks to residents and avoid further damage to the city’s urban landscape. Authorities are considering measures ranging from restoration and reinforcement of structurally weak buildings to the demolition of those beyond repair.

The session also served to update the Administrative Control Authority on recent developments, underscoring the ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of residents while preserving the capital’s urban infrastructure. Officials emphasized that cooperation between government agencies, city planners, and safety experts will be crucial in delivering a sustainable and long-term solution to the problem.
