Ghana to host US$300 million green ultra-modern 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, featuring a grand mall and convention centre

Actor, comedian and content creator Jeffrey Nortey named Best Entertainment Act at the 9th Forty Under 40 Awards

OYO’s parent company, Oravel Stays Limited, rebrandes to signal its global expansion and sharpen its focus on premium hospitality.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the country’s hospitality sector will soon host a US$300 million green ultra-modern 5-star Shangri-La Hotel, featuring a grand mall and convention cenrre, following President John Dramani Mahama’s investment mission to Singapore.

He added that OLAM will invest US$200 million in projects, including a 43,000-metric-ton pasta plant, poultry and aquaculture feed processing plants, and create about 4,000 jobs.

Other commitments include a 10,000-capacity hostel for the University of Ghana, enhanced airport security, expansion of Tema Port, revival of the dry dock, construction of an oil jetty, establishment of testing labs, and a common payment platform to boost trade.

The two nations also signed an MoU for political consultations, advanced talks on a Bilateral Investment Treaty, and secured support for ORAL capacity building.

The National Theatre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Accra City Hotel to strengthen ties between the arts and the hospitality industry. The collaboration will promote Ghanaian culture locally and internationally by offering weekly performances for hotel guests. The Theatre’s three resident groups—the National Drama Company, the National Dance Company, and the National Symphony Orchestra—will showcase music, drama, and dance that reflect Ghana’s diverse cultural heritage.

At the signing ceremony, Acting Executive Director of the National Theatre, Henry Herbert Malm, said the initiative is aimed at “spreading our culture,” while also providing Accra City Hotel guests with exclusive entertainment experiences. Both institutions described the partnership as a mutually beneficial effort to drive traffic to the arts and hospitality sectors.

Nortey, who recently staged his acclaimed one-man play 3 Faces of Jeffrey Nortey at the National Theatre, thanked fans on social media, calling the honour a validation of public support. The award highlights his versatility in drama, comedy, and digital content, cementing his role as a rising cultural influencer. The new identity will oversee operations in more than 35 countries, covering budget stays, premium hotels, vacation homes, extended living, co-working spaces and event venues, while the OYO brand will continue to serve its core budget travel market.

The rebrand marks a strategic shift toward unifying the company’s diverse ventures under one corporate umbrella and strengthening its global positioning.
