Agribusiness initiatives are efforts aimed at transforming agriculture from traditional subsistence farming into a vibrant and investment-driven sector.
They focus on enhancing productivity through modern farming techniques, mechanization, irrigation, and improved value chains while also creating opportunities for agro-processing, storage, and distribution. Such initiatives not only strengthen food security but also attract both local and foreign investment, positioning agriculture as a pillar of sustainable economic growth.
Ejura-Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s leading food baskets
Blessed with fertile lands, the district produces maize, yam, soybean, and livestock on a large scale. Its agribusiness initiatives include mechanization services, irrigation projects, and programs that link farmers directly to markets.
These interventions have made Ejura attractive to investors in storage and processing facilities, ensuring that agricultural production in the area is commercially viable and capable of feeding surrounding regions and major urban centers like Kumasi and Accra.
Savelugu in the Northern Region has also emerged as a district with promising agribusiness potential. Situated in a highly fertile zone, it supports large-scale cultivation of cereals and legumes such as maize, rice, groundnuts, and soybeans. Its proximity to Tamale provides access to efficient marketing and distribution systems, making it a strong hub for agricultural trade. Initiatives in Savelugu have focused on modernizing farming methods, integrating youth into agriculture, and attracting investors in agro-processing and logistics. These efforts continue to make the district a hotspot for agribusiness growth in northern Ghana.
Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai in the Western North Region represents another success story in agribusiness initiatives. Known for cocoa, oil palm, and food crop production, the district has become attractive for investment in value addition, particularly in cocoa processing and palm oil production. Ongoing efforts to establish agro-processing facilities and strengthen local supply chains have positioned Bibiani as a gateway for agribusiness development within Ghana’s forest belt, offering opportunities for both domestic and export markets.
Together, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Savelugu, and Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai highlight how different parts of Ghana are harnessing agribusiness initiatives to create jobs, attract investment, and transform agriculture into a driver of national development.
