Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show during Joy Sustainability Month, he outlined three key actions: revisiting policy frameworks to address urban planning and commuting challenges, committing government leadership and financing for infrastructure and affordable housing, and fostering strong partnerships with the private sector.
He stressed that while government funding is crucial, private developers must play a role in construction and maintenance once financing is secured. SDG 11.1 seeks to ensure access to adequate, safe, and affordable housing for all by 2030, recognising its importance for health, education, and employment.
The State Housing Company Limited (SHCL) has unveiled plans to deliver 1,500 new housing units as part of an ambitious move to tackle Ghana’s estimated 1.8 million-unit housing deficit.
The announcement was made during the commissioning of Seasons Court, a newly completed nine-unit apartment complex in Adenta. Speaking at the event, SHCL Managing Director, Mr. John Bawah, emphasised the urgency of large-scale interventions to address the crisis.

Mr. Bawah disclosed that the 1,500-unit project would be developed in partnership with private sector players to enhance efficiency and speed up delivery. He also linked the initiative to the government’s 24-hour economy policy, explaining that secure, affordable housing is essential for workers with late or overnight shifts.
The housing project is expected to make a significant dent in the country’s housing shortfall and form a key part of SHCL’s broader national development agenda.
The State Housing Company Limited (SHCL) has reaffirmed its commitment to completing all ongoing housing developments, including those that began before 2016, even as it rolls out new large-scale projects.
Speaking at the commissioning of Seasons Court in Adenta, SHCL Managing Director, Mr. John Bawah, assured that the company’s new 1,500-unit housing initiative would not come at the expense of unfinished projects.
“We are committed to finishing what was started. Our approach ensures that no project is abandoned and no taxpayer money is lost,” he stated.
Mr. Bawah credited President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership for reinforcing a governance principle of continuity in the housing sector. “His Excellency President Mahama has made it clear that this government is focused on completing what others started. That principle guides our every step,” he said.
The Seasons Court project, comprising nine newly completed apartment units, is part of SHCL’s legacy developments. Mr. Bawah stressed that combining continuity with scale is the only way to make lasting progress in addressing Ghana’s housing needs.
