The Ghana Property Awards has announced a transformative addition to its 17th edition: the ‘Best District Council 2025 – Ghana’ category. This newly introduced honour is designed to promote progressive leadership and foster competition among district councils across the country, with a vision to enhance local development, attract investment, and create sustainable communities. The organisers say the objective behind this category is to reward district assemblies that are excelling in five critical areas: revenue mobilization, investment attraction, job creation, agribusiness innovation, and green space development. The award will serve as a national benchmark for local governance excellence, showcasing districts that are proactive, innovative, and committed to community transformation. One of the central pillars of the evaluation will be revenue mobilization. Districts that demonstrate creative strategies in generating and managing their internally generated funds (IGFs) to support infrastructure, social amenities, and local economic activities will be considered frontrunners. The category will also recognize districts that have successfully attracted investment—both local and foreign—into real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism sectors. The aim is to showcase councils that position themselves as growth-friendly destinations by removing bureaucratic bottlenecks and providing investor support services.Job creation, especially programs targeted at empowering the youth, will be another major criterion. The award committee will assess how councils are working to retain young people through local employment opportunities, entrepreneurship hubs, skills training centres, and partnerships with private sector entities.Another focus is on agribusiness innovation. Districts embracing modern, scalable agricultural practices and agro-processing ventures that empower farmers, increase productivity, and promote food security will stand out. Initiatives that integrate youth into agriculture through technology or training will receive special commendation.Lastly, the award seeks to shine a spotlight on districts that prioritize the development of green spaces and parks—a critical component of urban planning and public health. Districts that have invested in landscaped parks, recreation centres, botanical gardens, or community green belts will earn high scores in this area. The Ghana Property Awards team believes this category will elevate the role of local governments in Ghana’s development agenda by encouraging strategic thinking, environmental consciousness, and inclusive growth. Organisers have hinted that the evaluation process will involve collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Local Government, the Ghana Statistical Service, and selected civil society organisations, to ensure transparency and impact. As the spotlight broadens from individual real estate developers to the institutions that support thriving communities, the Best District Council 2025 – Ghana award promises to become one of the most anticipated and competitive highlights of the Ghana Property Awards calendar.Source : Ghana Property Awards - Joycelyn Marigold
