The safari tourism market in Africa is expected to witness significant growth from 2023 to 2033.
Originally popularised by former U.S. president Teddy Roosevelt, safaris involve overland journeys, and the term is derived from the Swahili word “safari,” meaning “journey.”
Despite setbacks from the flu pandemic in 2021, the industry is expected to revive with increased tourism.
Rising per capita income globally and a growing interest in local cultures contribute to the demand for safari tourism.
Luxury safari experiences are gaining popularity, providing tourists with a blend of tribal and contemporary vacation elements.

Africa’s safari-driven tourism is contributing to economic growth, with the Big Five (elephant, rhino, cheetah, lion, and zebra) being a key attraction.
The competitive landscape involves major players focusing on mergers, acquisitions, and technological advancements like virtual reality and artificial intelligence to enhance the safari experience.
