A Ghanaian YouTuber named Wode Maya took an exciting trip to Suriname, a small country in South America.
He flew in a helicopter to visit a Maroon village, telling the story of the Maroon people who fought for freedom and independence.
Suriname’s Vice President, Ronnie Brunswijk, whose ancestors were from Africa, shared stories from his mom about the struggles of their people in Suriname.

He talked about how his forefathers, who were once slaves, chose to live in the jungle and fought against those who wanted to keep them as slaves.

Vice President Brunswijk wants to connect Africans around the world with Suriname to help the country grow.
He’s making history as the first leader from the Maroon tribe and is encouraging others from his community to take on important roles in the government.

Suriname is planning to start an airline to make it easier for people to travel between Suriname and Africa. This will help people from both places learn from each other and work together.
Wode Maya, the YouTuber, intends to sponsor two special people from the country to travel Africa on a helicopter for the first time if the airline becomes operational.

He also joined Vice President Brunswijk on a helicopter ride to a Maroon village for a funeral, bringing attention to the strong ties between Africa and Suriname.

Suriname is a cool place with rainforests and old Dutch buildings, and the Maroon and Creole people, who make up a big part of the population, have interesting stories from their past.

The country’s culture is a mix of Asian, African, and European influences, and leaders like Vice President Brunswijk are working hard to connect Suriname with Africa and make their bond even stronger.
