Ghana’s Travel Market Shows Strong Growth in Third Quarter of 2025

As of the third quarter of 2025, Ghana’s travel and tourism sector is showing strong growth, continuing the momentum from 2024. The country has seen an increase in international arrivals and revenue, reflecting its growing appeal as a premier destination for both leisure and cultural travel. In 2024, Ghana welcomed 1.288 million international visitors, marking a 12 percent increase from the previous year, generating a record $4.8 billion in tourism revenue. Early estimates for 2025 suggest that international tourist arrivals could grow by three to five percent compared to 2024, indicating a steady upward trajectory for the sector.

The country is also experiencing significant expansion in its hospitality infrastructure. Ghana ranks tenth in Africa for hotel development, with over 577 projects comprising more than 104,000 rooms underway as of the first quarter of 2025. Major international hotel chains, including Hilton and Marriott, are investing in the country, further enhancing accommodation options and supporting tourism growth.

Emerging travel trends are shaping the market, with travelers increasingly seeking immersive cultural experiences, wellness retreats, and eco-friendly travel options. Younger travelers, particularly from Gen Z, are prioritizing authentic experiences such as cultural festivals, culinary tours, and interactive workshops over traditional luxury accommodations. This shift is influencing how local operators design their offerings to meet evolving traveler expectations.

Government initiatives have also played a key role in boosting the sector. The Ghana Tourism Authority has been actively promoting domestic and international tourism, organizing events that highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage and culinary diversity. Digital platforms like GhanaTRVL and GHATOF are helping local operators connect with a global audience, providing cost-effective solutions to market their services online.

Despite these positive trends, challenges remain, including gaps in infrastructure, limited air connectivity, and high operational costs. Addressing these issues will be crucial for sustaining long-term growth. Overall, Ghana’s travel market in the third quarter of 2025 reflects a vibrant, evolving sector. With continued investment, strategic planning, and an emphasis on sustainability and cultural authenticity, Ghana is well-positioned to strengthen its reputation as a leading tourism destination in Afric
