The United States Embassy in Ghana has revealed that it approved 25,000 visa applications in 2024 out of a total of 61,000 submissions from Ghanaian applicants, underscoring both the growing demand for legal travel opportunities and the U.S. government’s firm stance on immigration compliance.
The figures were announced by Consular General Elliot Fertik during a Consular Media Day held in Accra on May 9, 2025.

The event was aimed at demystifying the U.S. visa application process and promoting lawful travel. It provided key insights into how the embassy processes applications and what is expected from visa holders. He, however, warned against illegal immigration and fraudulent visa practices, stressing that individuals who violate U.S. immigration laws risk severe consequences.

Fertik reiterated the embassy’s commitment to transparency and customer service, urging Ghanaians to apply for visas through official channels and to avoid relying on unauthorised intermediaries or misleading sources.

The Consular General also highlighted the dual mission of the U.S. consular services — to facilitate lawful travel while safeguarding U.S. borders.

Italy has officially launched a new Digital Nomad Visa aimed at attracting non-European Union remote workers to live and work in the country. The visa, which came into effect in April 2025, is designed for highly skilled professionals who work remotely and earn a stable income from outside Italy.

To qualify, applicants must provide proof of a remote work contract, demonstrate sufficient income (estimated minimum of €28,000 annually), and have health insurance. The visa allows them to stay in Italy for up to one year, with the possibility of renewal. It also provides a legal pathway for remote workers to reside in picturesque Italian cities and villages while contributing to local economies.

Italian officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to boost tourism, repopulate rural areas, and modernize the country’s labor market in the post-pandemic era.
