Korea began its Lunar New Year holiday with scattered rain and snow flurries on Monday, although most areas saw only a few snowflakes. The Seoul Metropolitan Government had initially predicted snowfall of 10 to 20 centimeters, but the capital city only experienced rain in the morning. Snow advisories were issued for some central regions, including Gangwon and the Chungcheong provinces, and parts of Gyeonggi such as Incheon, Yangju, and Pocheon.
The Korea Meteorological Administration expects the showers to continue through Tuesday, with rain or snow triggered by easterly winds from a high-pressure system over northeastern China. On Tuesday and Wednesday, a low-pressure system will move northeast of Korea, while continental high-pressure will expand its influence, bringing strong northwesterly winds and ongoing precipitation.
This inclement weather is expected to lengthen travel times as many Koreans hit the roads to return to their hometowns for the holiday. As of 9 a.m., driving from Seoul to Busan was estimated to take 6 hours, 5 hours and 30 minutes to Ulsan, and 5 hours to Gwangju and Daegu. It will take 3 hours and 10 minutes to reach Gangneung from Seoul and 2 hours and 40 minutes to reach Daejeon, according to the Korea Expressway Corporation., and stunning visuals.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release, which is expected to make a significant impact in the local film industry. Stay tuned for what could be one of the biggest movie events of 2025.
