Award-winning event MC and entrepreneur, Eddie Acquah, has carved out a distinguished career path that blends real estate expertise with entrepreneurial spirit.
His journey began when he left Ghana to pursue a master’s degree in real estate and finance, building on his earlier experiences at Asanta Property Consulting during his undergraduate studies, where he focused on property evaluations.
Reflecting on his early years, Eddie shared, “If you remember West Hills Mall, I helped open West Hills Mall back in the day,” a key milestone that solidified his commitment to Ghana’s real estate industry.
While studying in the UK, Eddie developed a deep urge to make an impact in Ghana’s real estate sector. He worked with a leading real estate company there, gaining valuable experience before deciding to return home. “I decided to sacrifice the luxuries to come back to Ghana,” he remarked, choosing to face the challenges of the local market over the comforts abroad.
After staying abroad for some time, Eddie moved back to Ghana and joined Westfield as a commercial property broker in charge of office spaces, overseeing buildings across Accra, from East Legon to Osu and Cantonments.
His experience led him to become known as the master of commercial building spaces. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the office space market, prompting him to shift his focus. This pivot led to the creation of Ed Properties, a residential real estate venture that has been thriving for nearly four years.
Throughout his career, Eddie has faced challenges, particularly in finding like-minded individuals who share his vision. He believes in the long-term nature of real estate, stating, “Real estate is a long-term vision.” He also noted that some brokers in the industry are unprofessional, with some listing properties they haven’t personally verified. “I realized that there were a lot of loopholes in the market, people were losing money, so personally that is why I’m excited about the Real Estate Agency Council,” he explained, emphasizing the need for higher standards in the industry.
For Eddie, integrity, honesty, trust and upholding the highest ethical standards are the cornerstones of his organization. He is also passionate about networking and building connections, both in his role as an MC and as a consultant for global firms, which has helped him build a strong diaspora base.
One of Eddie’s proudest moments came when a client who hadn’t been to Ghana in ten years asked him to purchase their first property in the country. “I always said I would strive to earn recognition or an award from this brand,” Eddie said, reflecting on his recent nominations for “Up-and-Coming Brand of the Year” and “Entrepreneur of the Year.” He believes that such awards not only bring credibility but also offer a platform to expand his business globally.
Looking ahead, Eddie shared his vision of expanding Ed Properties across Africa. “We are trying to expand to Africa with a huge vision,” he said, highlighting his long-term goals and commitment to growth. Eddie Acquah’s journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in the power of real estate to transform lives.
