On Friday, October 25, 2024, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) hosted its National Tourism Awards at the Osu Castle Gardens, celebrating distinguished individuals and institutions in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, and Deputy Minister Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, alongside other dignitaries and industry practitioners.

Hon. Florence Oboshie Sai Cofie chaired the event, while Togbe Dr. Crystal-Dzirackor, Group Chair of Crystal TV Group, served as the Guest of Honour. A total of 36 awards were presented, which included 26 competitive awards, 8 honorary awards, and 2 special awards.

Notable awardees included Citi FM/Channel One TV, recognized as Tourism-Oriented Media, and Labadi Beach Hotel. The evening was further enhanced by live performances from highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena and the Immigration Band, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Tang Palace Hotel was awarded the title of Best Four-Star Hotel at this year’s Greater Accra Regional Tourism Awards hosted by the Ghana Tourism Authority. This recognition follows the hotel’s earlier success at the International Travel Awards in Dubai, where it received a similar accolade.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, who chaired the event, praised the management and staff of Tang Palace for their achievement.

He encouraged stakeholders in the tourism sector to leverage innovation to enhance the country’s tourism offerings, attract more visitors, and develop a sustainable tourism model that benefits the economy and local communities.

The Minister emphasized the need for industry players to adopt digital solutions to improve customer experiences, promote sustainable practices, and offer creative culinary options, stating, “Our beautiful country stands on the brink of even greater global recognition as a premier destination for leisure, culture, and adventure.”

Sajid Khan, the General Manager of Tang Palace Hotel, expressed gratitude for the award, highlighting the hotel’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences through contemporary facilities. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, he noted that the hotel would continue to monitor guest preferences and incorporate their feedback to improve comfort and convenience.

Khan dedicated the two awards to the management, staff, and guests for their dedication and support, reaffirming the hotel’s commitment to excellence and innovation in hospitality. He stated, “We continuously invest in staff development, providing ongoing training to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to offer exceptional service. This has led to a strong, motivated workforce that shares the hotel’s vision for success.”

He also shared insights on the hospitality sector’s future, noting the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry. However, he reported a resurgence in business as more people express interest in exploring local destinations and adopting digital technologies. Khan affirmed that Tang Palace Hotel would continue to create attractive packages for local tourists, focusing on exceptional customer service to provide memorable experiences that encourage repeat visits and recommendations.

The Gambia, recognized as the smallest country on the African mainland, occupies an area of approximately 11,300 square kilometers (4,363 square miles). It is uniquely characterized by its narrow shape, with the Gambia River meandering through its center. This tiny nation is completely surrounded by Senegal, except for a brief coastline that faces the Atlantic Ocean.

In recent years, The Gambia has gained traction as a beach destination for European travelers, thanks to its inviting warm climate, stunning beaches, and rich cultural heritage. The country’s relatively small time difference of just one hour behind GMT, coupled with affordable lodging options, makes it an appealing choice for tourists seeking a tropical getaway.

Despite its growing popularity, The Gambia remains an overlooked destination for many, offering an authentic experience that showcases its natural beauty and vibrant culture. As travelers begin to discover this hidden gem, the potential for tourism in The Gambia continues to expand, promising a unique and enriching adventure.
