China’s Golden Week holiday, which commemorates the founding of the People’s Republic of China, saw cautious consumer spending, with per trip spending about 2% lower than pre-pandemic levels, according to a Goldman Sachs report.

While this marks an improvement from a 10% gap seen in the spring holidays, it highlights ongoing weak domestic demand and downgrading in consumption.

Younger consumers aged 20 to 25 drove nearly 20% of bookings on Trip.com, with significant growth in performance and exhibition orders.

However, the lack of major movie releases contributed to a decline in box office earnings from 2.7 billion yuan last year to 2.1 billion yuan this year.
