South African Airways (SAA) will increase its flight frequency between Accra and Johannesburg from three to four times a week, starting November 3, 2024, in response to rising demand.

The new flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, offering travelers more flexibility.

This development follows the November 1, 2023, implementation of a visa-free travel arrangement between Ghana and South Africa, allowing Ghanaian passport holders to enter South Africa visa-free for up to 90 days per year.

Air Cote D’Ivoire has increased its weekly flights between Accra, Ghana, and Dakar, Senegal, from seven to ten, adding three more flights in response to growing demand. The flights pass through Abidjan, offering more options for passengers.

A group of around 50 Ghanaians, including media professionals, business leaders, and tourists, arrived in Dubai to welcome the Wanderlust Ghana team.

This visit marks a key moment in the team’s 30,000-kilometer journey across 30 countries, following their celebrated road trip from Accra to London in 2023.

Organized by the G10 Travel Companies, this expedition gives Ghanaians the opportunity to meet the Wanderlust Ghana team during major stops in Dubai and South Africa. The G10 consortium, which includes prominent travel agencies such as Travel Planners Ghana, Eves Travelcation, and Adbel Travels, aims to promote tourism and cultural exchange through this initiative.

From October 6–12, 2024, participants in Dubai will engage in exciting activities like desert dune bashing, and an all-white yacht party, creating an environment for Ghanaians in Dubai to connect. After Dubai, the team will continue to South Africa for a six-night experience from November 7–14, 2024, visiting iconic landmarks such as Soweto, Robben Island, and Table Mountain.

For those unable to join in Dubai or South Africa, an alternative meet-up is scheduled in Benin, offering another chance for Ghanaians to engage with the team. Mercy Akaliga, a representative of the G10 group, emphasized the significance of supporting Wanderlust Ghana’s mission, noting, “Wanderlust Ghana is helping promote tourism through their ‘Visit Ghana’ tagline. By bringing Ghanaians to meet the team halfway, we aim to motivate and support their efforts to attract more tourists to Ghana, benefiting the economy.”

The partnership between Wanderlust Ghana and the G10 Travel Companies highlights the shared goal of promoting Ghana as a leading travel destination while fostering cultural connections through travel.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has advised against imposing trade and travel restrictions on countries reporting cases of mpox and Marburg fever.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that based on current risk assessments, such restrictions are unnecessary. He emphasized that the focus should be on public health advice and collaborative efforts to manage the outbreaks effectively.

According to WHO data, Africa has reported over 35,000 suspected mpox cases, resulting in nearly a thousand fatalities between January 1 and September 24. Additionally, Rwanda confirmed the beginning of a Marburg fever outbreak on September 27.
