A new family amusement park, Shornaa Island Amusement Park, has opened in Accra, enhancing Ghana’s tourism and recreation offerings.
Located beside a serene black water lagoon, the park combines entertainment, relaxation, and adventure.
It features Ghana’s largest wet and dry inflatable attractions, international-standard bumper car rides, a giant piano, and the first international musical light fountain in the sub-region.
It also offers Africa’s first fun house and employs a cashless payment system. Key figures, such as Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas and Magnus Lincoln Quarshie of XtremeFun Ltd., emphasized its potential to boost tourism
Seventeen industry players have been honoured at the 2024 Volta Regional Tourism Awards for their remarkable achievements in boosting the region’s tourism.
The theme for the event was “Celebrating Innovation and Recognising Excellence in Ghana’s Tourism Sector,” aimed at recognising outstanding contributions to tourism growth in the region.
The awards ceremony also provided a platform for stakeholders to network and share ideas on enhancing tourism in the Volta Region. A total of 17 industry actors were celebrated for their contributions to the region’s tourism development.
The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Johny Arthur-Quam, commended the recipients for their creativity and innovation, which have helped position the Volta Region as a top destination in Ghana.
He emphasized that the event’s theme was not just reflection of aspirations but a call to action, stressing the importance of innovation in tourism. Additionally, Mr. Richard Agyenim Boateng, Director of Administration at the Ghana Tourism Authority, highlighted the Authority’s focus on sustainable tourism and continued investment in the region’s infrastructure.
Mrs. Lydia Nyarko Ampomaa, Volta Regional Director for the Center for National Culture, noted the significant economic impact of tourism on the region and encouraged efforts to boost local patronage.
Awards were given in categories such as hotels, restaurants, tour guides, and visitor attractions, with Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa receiving a special honorary award in absentia.
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s tourism industry have called for sustainable tourism plans to protect natural and cultural resources, support local economies, and enhance visitor experiences while minimising environmental impact.
They made the call at a press briefing in commemoration of World Tourism Day in Abuja on Saturday after a clean-up exercise at the Jabi Lake organised by the Eco Club in collaboration with the Jabi Boat Club, Jabi Mall, and Jabi Park.
World Tourism Day is commemorated on September 27 to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value.
