On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Ghana’s tourism and recreational industry witnessed a significant milestone with the grand opening of Shornaa Island Amusement Park. Located along the A1 lagoon bypass behind the Trade Fair in Accra, this state-of-the-art amusement park is the first of its kind in the capital, offering an exciting blend of entertainment, adventure, and relaxation set against a tranquil black water lagoon backdrop.
During the opening ceremony, Ing. Magnus Lincoln Quarshie, President of XtremeFun Ltd, expressed his joy in bringing the park to life, highlighting the excitement it will bring to families and visitors.
Several international partners also shared their goodwill messages, including Peter van Bilsen, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Vekoma Rides Manufacturing, and Luigi Puca, Trade Commissioner from the Italian Embassy. Local representation was made by the La Traditional Council, and distinguished diplomat Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of such investments in boosting Ghana’s tourism sector.
The park was officially dedicated by Reverend Abboah Offei, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Guests were then taken on a guided tour of the park by General Manager Richard Lee, showcasing the various attractions. Richard Lee remarked that the opening marks the beginning of many future developments, with more exciting features planned.
The event concluded with a raffle draw and a vibrant fireworks display, building anticipation for the park’s public opening on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davies Opoku Ansah, has urged Ghanaians to explore the rich tourism offerings within their own country before seeking international destinations.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Tourism Authority’s (GTA) annual ‘Tourism Month’ event in September, he highlighted the beauty and cultural heritage of regions like Kwahu, known for its scenic landscapes and pleasant weather.
He encouraged Ghanaians to consider Kwahu as an affordable and rewarding alternative to places like Dubai.
The ‘Tourism Month’ initiative aims to promote domestic tourism, boosting the local economy while encouraging citizens to appreciate the diverse attractions of Ghana.
