The New England Ghana Festival (NEGFest 2024) will take place in Worcester, Massachusetts, from Saturday, September 7 to Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Organized by the Ghana Heritage Foundation in partnership with entities like the US-Ghana Embassy, Worcester State University, and the Ghana Ministry of Tourism, the event celebrates Ghanaian culture and heritage.

With the theme “Sankofa; Embracing Our Heritage, Connecting Our Past,” the festival aims to strengthen cultural identity and connect diaspora generations.

Ken Asafo-Adjei, CEO of the Ghana Heritage Foundation, emphasized that NEGFest is primarily organized by Ghanaian volunteers to create new opportunities for the community.

The Ga-Dangme Association of New Jersey recently held the 29th celebration of Homowo in Pennsylvania on August 17, 2024.

The festival, which means “hooting at hunger,” commemorates the Ga-Dangme people’s survival of a historical famine.

The event featured a libation ceremony, traditional rituals like the sprinkling of Kpokpoi, and the sharing of this steamed cornmeal dish with palm nut soup.

Attendees included Ga-Dangme leaders and representatives from various states, celebrating their heritage through music, dance, and food.

Relax Airlines is preparing to launch domestic and regional operations in Ghana, following the acquisition and branding of its aircraft.

The airline will initially operate routes between Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, Tamale, Wa, and Takoradi, with plans to expand into the West African regional market. Relax Airlines has obtained its Air Carrier License (ACL) and completed inspections for its Air Operator Certificate (AOC), including Air Training Organisation (ATO) and Air Maintenance Organisation (AMO) assessments, which are key requirements from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The domestic aviation market in Ghana is currently dominated by two airlines, Africa World Airlines and PassionAir, which offer scheduled flights between Accra and major regional cities. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a surge in demand for air travel, resulting in significantly higher airfares.

Relax Airlines aims to become a preferred carrier by collaborating with key industry players to deliver seamless travel experiences.

The company also intends to grow profitability through strategic partnerships and by introducing new destinations. Its entry into the market aligns with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited’s (GACL) strategy to attract more airlines to the country’s secondary airports. Recently commissioned facilities, such as the Tamale International Airport and the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, are expected to boost domestic and international travel, tapping into the cultural and economic potential of these regions.

Emirates has introduced a new A380 livery highlighting its Airline Foundation’s global humanitarian efforts. The design, featuring pastel stars and the message “Help to support children in need,” symbolizes the Foundation’s mission to improve the lives of children worldwide.

Over the past 20 years, the Emirates Airline Foundation has supported over 50 projects, focusing on providing safe housing, food, medical care, education, and empowerment. Funded by Emirates customers, donors, and employees, the Foundation currently supports 14 NGOs in 9 countries, including Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Bangladesh. These initiatives provide critical services such as education and healthcare, especially for children with disabilities.

The newly liveried A380’s first destination is Johannesburg, South Africa, where the Foundation backs two key projects.
