Air Travel Bounces Back to Pre-Pandemic Levels
Ghana has received a special invitation to participate in the Salvador Carnival in Bahia, Brazil, making it the first African country to join the event.
The carnival, themed “Reconnecting Afro Roots,” allows nations to showcase their cultural heritage.
The initiative aims to exhibit Ghana’s culture and encourage diasporans with Ghanaian roots to reconnect.
The participation involves musicians, officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Association of Ghana Industries, and representatives from the tourism sector.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mante, highlighted the event’s significance, emphasising its role in strengthening ties between Ghana and Brazil.
He noted the historical context of African slaves brought to Brazil and highlighted the increasing population of black and mixed-race individuals, making them the majority in Brazil.
The All Africa Festival (AAF), known as UAE’s largest celebration of Africa’s diverse cultures, is set for its 3rd edition in Abu Dhabi from February 2 to 4, 2024.
Presented in collaboration with UAE Africa Connect (UAEAC), the festival aims to strengthen cultural ties between the UAE and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Etihad Park on Yas Island will host the event, featuring a star-studded lineup including artists like Stonebwoy, Omah Lay, Diamond Platnumz, and Yemi Alade.
The festival promises a mix of global and local talent, with activities such as pan-African cuisine, live art displays, and fashion exhibits for an immersive cultural experience.
Adansi Travels, a prominent player in the Ghanaian travel industry, has launched The Adansi Travel House, a groundbreaking one-stop destination in Accra.
Mr. Gideon Asare, the Managing Director, said the initiative seeks to provide integrated services to meet diverse travel needs.
Emphasising a commitment to technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mr. Asare stated that AI is integrated into all aspects of their operations.
The Adansi Travel House reflects innovation and excellence in the travel industry, aiming to reshape the future of travel and prioritise customer satisfaction.
On the International front
In November 2023, air travel, as reported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), rebounded significantly, reaching 99% of pre-pandemic levels.
Global traffic, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), saw a 29.7% increase compared to November 2022, reaching 99.1% of November 2019 levels.
International traffic showed a 26.4% improvement, with all regions experiencing growth compared to the previous year.
Domestic traffic also surged by 34.8%, surpassing November 2019 levels by 6.7%, with China playing a key role with a 272% growth.
Despite economic challenges, IATA’s Director General, Willie Walsh, noted that international travel is closing the gap and domestic markets have consistently exceeded pre-pandemic levels since April.
