The PE Group is hosting the African Housing Show 2024 on April 27-28 in the UK, an
extraordinary two-day event celebrating innovation in African housing.

The focus on sustainability and affordable housing, under the theme “Quality Housing,” aims to
redefine homes as accessible havens of excellence.

Talks by leaders and experts will cover eco-friendly construction practices, emphasizing the goal
of positively impacting occupants and the environment.

The event features exhibitions showcasing groundbreaking housing innovations, providing a
hands-on experience of the future of African housing.

The highlight is the Awards Night, recognizing and celebrating efforts in sustainable and
affordable housing initiatives.

The show is a platform for idea sharing and fostering a collective mission to improve homes for
everyone in Africa’s housing landscape.

A Structural engineer, Mrs Carlien Bou-Chedid advocates for the adoption of digital twin
technology in the building industry in Ghana to enhance cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and
overall performance of structures.

Digital twins use sensors for real-time monitoring of parameters in the built environment.

Mrs. Bou-Chedid, speaking at a summit in Accra, explains how digital twin technology creates
virtual replicas, allowing for continuous infrastructure performance monitoring and predictive
maintenance.

The summit addressed the transition from traditional construction to green building, emphasizing
the importance of technology in flood preparedness.

Engineering firms also showcased modern technologies.

Still staying on the building industry

The President of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana
(ABCECG), Mr. Prosper Yao Ledi, has urged building contractors to embrace innovation and
resilience to tackle ongoing economic challenges.

In a statement, Mr. Ledi emphasized the importance of adopting innovative strategies to sustain
operations and navigate uncertainties.

He anticipates a potential increase in projects in the upcoming election year but acknowledges
that the government’s limited revenue streams may impact contract awards and payments.

Mr. Ledi called for an “innovate or die” approach and assured the Association’s support in
developing innovative solutions.

The President commended ethical practices among contractors and encouraged collaboration,
knowledge sharing, and technology transfer within the industry.
