Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, is celebrating 20 years of service in Ghana.
Since its inaugural flight in January 2004 at Kotoka International Airport, Emirates has become a trusted transport partner, connecting Ghana to the world and contributing to its economy and community.

The airline, which started with three weekly flights, now operates a daily non-stop service between Accra and Dubai.
Over the past two decades, Emirates has transported over 2 million passengers, operated close to 13,000 roundtrip flights, and covered 80.71 million kilometers on the Accra-Dubai route.

In 2018, the airline demonstrated its commitment with a special A380 flight for the launch of Ghana’s Terminal 3.

The British High Commission in Accra hosted the second UK-Ghana Diaspora New Year networking mixer themed ‘Into the Future of the UK-Ghana Diaspora 2024.’

The event celebrated British-Ghanaian talent in culture, food, creative arts, and technology, reinforcing the commitment to building people-to-people links within the diaspora community.

In 2023, Ghana gained global recognition, with Accra hailed as a top destination for London creatives.
The evening featured cultural showcases, including British-Ghanaian dishes by Chef Akwasi Brenya-Mensa and an exhibition of businesses like Enroute 54 and Tayp.

The British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson, emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections, praising the impact of the British-Ghanaian diaspora across business, tourism, and the creative sectors.

The Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board, Ben Abdallah Banda, has signed a mandatory agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, officially confirming Ghana’s participation in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage scheduled for June.

The agreement marks formal clearance for Ghana’s involvement, and discussions with the Saudi authorities included improving Ghana’s Hajj experience.

Among the issues addressed was the infiltration of Ghana’s Hajj camp by individuals using tourist visas to falsely perform Hajj, utilizing Ghana’s allocated slots. Stricter measures are expected to be implemented to prevent abuse of the system, with assurances of punishments for offenders.
