In our first story
The Architects Registration Council (ARC) hosted its 23rd induction ceremony in Accra, marking a significant milestone for 55 newly qualified architects.
Dr. Emmanuel Eyiah-Botwe, representing the Governing Board and the Council, commended the newly inducted architects for their hard work, dedication, and demonstrated readiness to practice architecture in Ghana.
He emphasized the theme of the event, which stressed the importance of harmonizing architectural designs with the environment while promoting sustainability. He encouraged the architects to push the boundaries of their field, maintain good reputations, and be conscious of the impact of modernism.
The Chairperson of the ARC, Arc. Richard Nii Dadey, urged the inductees and architects in attendance to align themselves with contemporary issues, including climate change and social justice.
President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, Arc. Foster Osae Akonnor encouraged the inductees to actively participate in the institute’s activities and committees to promote the highest standards in the profession.
Still staying on this
The Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, who was the special guest of honour at the induction ceremony emphasized the critical role architects play in ensuring that construction projects meet safety, functionality, and aesthetic standards.
He referred to a report by the Ghana Institute of Architects, revealing a lack of architects and other development professionals in many MMDAs.
Mr. Asenso-Boakye, has encouraged metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) to consider outsourcing the issuance of development and building permits to relevant professional bodies in the construction industry.
This move is aimed at improving town planning and mitigating challenges like flooding and building collapses in the country.
He stressed the importance of adapting to the changing urban landscape, where cities and towns are rapidly evolving. MMDAs are at the forefront of development controls, and involving professionals like architects can bring expertise to enhance the process.
This collaborative approach aims to contribute to the sustainable development of urban areas and improve living conditions.

The Prampram Traditional Council has taken decisive action to address long-standing land disputes in Prampram by forming a 47-member Land Management Committee.
This initiative, led by Paramount Chief Nene Wakah, aims to bring peace and unity to the region and save resources consumed by costly court battles.
Nene Wakah has established a local Land Secretariat to address these disputes and emphasized the importance of unity and development during the inauguration.
The Land Secretariat, with members from various local families, will mediate land disputes and ensure compliance with the law for estate developers.
This effort seeks to resolve land conflicts, promote peace, and facilitate the region’s development.
For years, Prampram has been haunted by land disputes, some with tragic consequences like the shooting of Manklalo Nene Atsure Benta in 2018, and more recently, the cold-blooded killings of family heads in December 2022.
In response to this pressing crisis, Nene Wakah has acted in strict accordance with the Land Act, Act 1036, to create a local Land Secretariat, which stands poised to address and, ultimately, extinguish these perilous land disputes.
Let’s shift our focus to Canada
The Calgary Real Estate Board says 2,171 city homes sold in October, marking a 17 per cent increase compared with the same month last year and among the highest levels it’s ever reported for October.
New listings also rose compared with last year, reaching 2,684 units, the most reported for October since 2015.
But inventory levels in October remained more than 40 per cent lower than what’s traditionally available for the month as relatively strong sales prevented any significant shift.
The unadjusted residential benchmark price for all property types rose to $571,600, nearly 10 per cent higher than October 2022. The average price was $545,746.
CREB chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie said supply levels remain a challenge in the market
