Accor Opens First MGallery Boutique Hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa with Gem Forest Nairobi
Accra City Hotel in Ghana is set to open a new Events Centre in July 2025. The facility will feature 10 multipurpose halls capable of accommodating up to 2,000 guests. It is designed to host a variety of occasions, including conferences, business meetings, weddings, and exhibitions.
The hotel highlights that this new centre addresses a significant gap in Accra’s event venue options, as the city has so far lacked a modern, purpose-built space of this scale.“The Events Centre reflects our vision to meet the rising demand,” the hotel said in a statement.
The development is expected to create jobs and support local businesses. With more events taking place, planners, chefs, transport providers, and vendors will benefit, along with nearby hotels, restaurants, and shops.
To manage the increase in visitors, a new multi-storey car park is under construction. Additionally, the hotel will launch a restaurant specializing in African cuisine. “We are redefining event catering by showcasing Ghana’s culinary diversity with a world-class touch,” the hotel added.
The Events Centre is part of a broader upgrade to the hotel’s facilities, which includes a commitment to sustainability by preserving green spaces and reducing environmental impact. The venue aims to attract international delegates and compete with major West African cities such as Lagos and Abidjan.
The hotel describes the project as “a catalyst for growth” and a key step toward positioning Ghana as a leading destination for business and events across Africa.
Eid al-Adha, observed according to the Islamic calendar, follows the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, marked by the ascent to Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia. This festival commemorates the profound sacrifice Abraham was commanded by God to make with his son Ishmael. Abraham demonstrated unwavering faith when, just as he was about to fulfill God’s order, a ram was provided as a substitute for the sacrifice.
As followers of the Abrahamic faiths, should we not embrace the spirit of sacrifice for the betterment of humanity in its many forms? Abraham’s example teaches us that sacrifice—whether spiritual, physical, or moral—holds deep significance, offering both spiritual rewards and tangible benefits.A central ritual of the occasion is the slaughtering of animals, symbolizing Abraham’s devotion. Muslims are encouraged to divide the meat, giving one third to their neighbors, one third to those in need, and keeping the remaining third for their own families.
In a statement marking the occasion, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, shared important reflections addressing the pressing challenges facing humanity locally and globally. The Chief Imam emphasized the vital importance of peace, reconciliation, and unity—values whose absence has hindered human progress.
He urged that Eid al-Adha be a time not just for celebration but also for thoughtful reflection on life and our responsibilities. Ultimately, God is not concerned with the physical act of sacrifice or the animal’s flesh and blood, but with our sincere commitment to piety and righteousness, as the Chief Imam wisely reminded us.
