Jeune Afrique Unveils Africa’s 30 Most Attractive Cities Ranking

Ghana’s Urban Poverty: Challenges and the Role of Social Housing Programs

UK Housebuilders Optimistic About Growth Despite Economic Uncertainty

Jeune Afrique, in collaboration with its sister magazine The African, has introduced a pioneering ranking of Africa’s 30 most attractive cities. Based on nearly 2,000 responses from readers, the ranking evaluates cities across five categories: quality of life, infrastructure and housing, employment and economic opportunities, essential services, and foreign direct investment.

This innovative analysis incorporates 26 sub-criteria, such as safety, green spaces, housing, transport, healthcare, and education. It also highlights foreign direct investment trends, including cumulative amounts and projects from 2019 to 2023.

As Africa’s urban population is projected to reach 900 million by 2050, the ranking emphasizes the challenges of urbanization, urban planning, and the integration of new residents. These hurdles demand strategic solutions to foster sustainable urban growth.

Cape Town claims the top spot for its governance, economic dynamism, and natural beauty, followed by Kigali, celebrated for its quality of life. Johannesburg, despite security concerns, remains an economic hub, while Casablanca and Rabat complete the top five, exemplifying Morocco’s balance between growth and living standards.

Transforming a house into a dream home requires the expertise and collaboration of skilled professionals. Home improvement experts play a pivotal role by bridging the gap between a homeowner’s vision and its physical realization. They develop practical plans that optimize space, ensure functionality, and manage the entire renovation process, including coordinating trades, adhering to budgets, and maintaining timelines. Their project management skills are crucial to a seamless transformation.

Painters add the finishing touches, setting the tone and atmosphere of the space. Beyond applying paint, they carefully select colors, finishes, and techniques to create the desired ambiance, whether it’s a serene bedroom or a lively living area. Their expertise in textures and lighting effects elevates the overall design, making the home truly unique.

Collaboration is essential in successful renovations. Drywall contractors, home improvement experts, and painters must communicate effectively, respect each other’s roles, and adapt to challenges. This teamwork ensures the final outcome is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, tailored to the homeowner’s needs.

Engaging experienced professionals simplifies the renovation process, reduces stress, and keeps projects on track. A well-executed renovation not only enhances a home’s beauty and functionality but also improves the homeowner’s quality of life, providing a sanctuary that reflects their personality and needs.

Urban poverty in Ghana is a critical issue exacerbated by rapid urbanization and population growth. Cities like Accra and Kumasi face severe challenges as migrants seeking better opportunities often end up in overcrowded slums with substandard housing, inadequate sanitation, and limited access to clean water and essential services. Social exclusion and discrimination further hinder the urban poor’s ability to escape poverty.

Efforts to address urban poverty include social housing programs aimed at providing safe and affordable housing for low-income families. These initiatives involve public housing projects, cooperative housing schemes, and partnerships with NGOs. However, challenges such as insufficient funding, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and poor stakeholder coordination have limited their impact. Strengthening and expanding these programs is crucial to effectively alleviate urban poverty and improve living conditions for Ghana’s most vulnerable urban populations.

Despite uncertainties, the U.S. economy is expected to grow in 2025, driven by consumer spending, easing financial conditions, and productivity gains. Real estate investment will see moderate recovery, with a slight compression in capitalization rates.

The office market will experience a revival, especially in downtown areas, while retail will benefit from low vacancy rates, particularly in suburban and Sun Belt locations. Industrial real estate will still be impacted by e-commerce growth, though leasing activity will return to pre-pandemic levels, with increased demand for quality properties.

Multifamily vacancies will decrease due to strong tenant demand, supported by economic growth and high homeownership costs. The data center market will thrive, driven by AI, cloud computing, and digital economy growth, despite increasing pressure on the U.S. power grid.
