George Quaye, Team Lead for ImageBureau, has endorsed actress and politician Abla Dzifa Gomashie for the position of Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts in
President John Mahama’s new government. Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, George emphasized Dzifa’s qualifications, highlighting her prior role as Deputy Minister for the same sector. He described her as the ideal candidate to lead the ministry, especially given her broad knowledge and experience in tourism, culture, and creative arts.
Quaye argued that the new minister must possess a comprehensive understanding of the sector, noting its complexity with thirteen agencies. He lauded the previous government’s success in tourism under Nana Akufo-Addo, emphasizing the need for continuity and progress in the sector.
In addition to Dzifa Gomashie, other potential candidates discussed include creative entrepreneur Baba Sadiq, musician Rex Omar, actor John Dumelo, actress Ebi Bright, and former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu. Meanwhile, President Mahama has unveiled his first batch of ministerial nominees, including Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister for Finance, John Jinapor as Minister for Energy, and Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to introduce a second public holiday for Eid al-Fitr celebrations, fulfilling a campaign promise to honour Islamic traditions in Ghana. Speaking at a National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Accra on January 10, he revealed that the Holidays Act would be amended once Parliament resumes to officially recognise the additional day for Sallah festivities.
This move will give Ghanaians two public holidays to celebrate Eid al-Fitr after Ramadan.
