The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, has announced direct flights between London Gatwick and Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport, starting December 3, 2024.
Flights will depart London at 2:10 AM, arriving in Kumasi at 9:05 AM, with returns leaving Kumasi at 11:00 AM and reaching London at 6:00 PM.
An additional flight is planned for December 15, 2024, for the Christmas season.
This new route aims to boost travel convenience for Ashanti Region residents and strengthen economic and cultural ties between Ghana and the UK.
The service underscores GACL’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s aviation network and promoting seamless international travel. It is also expected to contribute significantly to tourism and business opportunities between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, led by Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has announced the upgrade from biometric passports to chip-embedded ones, reflecting a commitment to enhanced security, efficiency, and international standards.
Speaking at the launch event at the Accra International Conference Centre, the minister described this development as a significant milestone in Ghana’s digitization efforts.The new passports feature a microprocessor storing biometric and photo data, along with advanced security measures to combat fraud and improve travel safety. The initiative aims to position Ghana as a technological leader in Africa while expediting passport issuance and ensuring secure travel for citizens.
Ghana has reinstated its temporary visa-on-arrival policy from December 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025, as part of the “December in GH” and “Beyond the Return” initiatives. This measure aims to attract international tourists and strengthen ties with the African diaspora by simplifying travel procedures. Visitors can obtain visas upon arrival without prior approval, enhancing convenience for end-of-year festivities.
