Green Homes Revolution Drives UK Eco-Friendly Housing
The Chartered Institute of Realtors (CIR) and the Chamber of Real Estate (CRE) recently launched the Universal Village, a groundbreaking social housing project aimed at addressing Ghana’s housing deficit by offering affordable and sustainable homes.
The initiative was introduced by notable dignitaries, including Maher Kheir, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana, and Dr. Mark Nii Akwei Ankrah, a social housing and regeneration consultant, alongside various traditional leaders.
The announcement took place during the CIR Summit 2024, where industry leaders and experts convened to celebrate this strategic solution.
Leading local property developer Clifton Homes is collaborating with the German Development Agency GIZ Ghana and Ghana TVET Service (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) on their Female Talent in Construction Programme.
The scheme aims to promote and empower female talent in the construction industry by providing internships to promising students in the sector. The GIZ-backed initiative is designed to benefit 150 students in total, with at least 50% being female. Clifton Homes has volunteered to give six to twelve students each year the opportunity to complete a three-month placement within the company, exposing them to real-life commercial experience to hone their skills.
The interns were involved in several of Clifton Homes’ current projects, including their latest luxury residential development, Loxwood House.
Winner of the 2024 Luxury Lifestyle Award for Best Apartment Development, Loxwood House overlooks the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange and has just opened its doors to residents several months ahead of the contractual deadline, maintaining Clifton Homes’ impressive track record on project delivery.
In a bold move to address multiple national challenges, The Wildlife Trusts has released a report urging the UK government and developers to prioritize nature recovery in England’s ambitious housebuilding initiative.
As the country aims to construct 1.5 million homes over the next five years, this report presents a compelling case for integrating environmental considerations into the planning and development process.
The report, titled “Swift and wild: How to build houses and restore nature together,” outlines strategies for leveraging the housing boom to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and public health issues.
By placing nature recovery at the forefront of new developments, the report suggests that the UK can make significant strides towards its environmental targets, including achieving net-zero emissions and protecting 30% of land for nature by 2030.
