Electrical Contractor Urges Rewiring of Older Public Buildings to Prevent Fires

Thomas Gali, an electrical contractor in Wenchi, Bono Region, has urged the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to recommend the rewiring of all public buildings over 18 years old to prevent fire outbreaks.
His call follows a recent spike in fires, including incidents at Job 600 and Zongo Lane in Accra. Gali emphasized that renovations on public buildings should include rewiring, particularly for older structures.
He is planning a workshop to educate property owners and electrical contractors in Bono on using quality cables to ensure safety. Gali also advised Ghanaians to avoid substandard imported cables and rely on locally manufactured ones to prevent fire risks.

Kenya is seeking partnerships with South Korean firms to advance its Affordable Housing project. Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, revealed that Kenya is keen to leverage Korea’s construction technologies, such as aluminum formwork, to meet its housing demand.
With a housing deficit of over 2 million units, the government aims to construct 200,000 units annually, supported by initiatives like a housing levy and VAT exemptions on materials.
Kenya is offering incentives, including tax holidays and affordable power, to attract South Korean investment, with a goal to build one million homes over the next five years.
