The Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) is calling on the government to remove or reduce duties and levies on building materials to lower costs, pay contractors’ arrears owed to them, and Rrollout targeted affordable housing schemes.
The association’s president, Anthony Klutsey, states that: high building material costs are hindering real estate development and affordable housing initiatives and is urging the government to take swift action to address these issues and make affordable housing a reality.

Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said that the government, through the Ministry, is moving away from traditional government-funded models for housing projects.

The declaration also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and focuses on promoting social and economic growth at all levels of human settlement.
By unifying their voices, the ministers aim to achieve common goals and tackle shared challenges, particularly climate change. The declaration was made at the 43rd Annual General Meeting of Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) in Kigali, Rwanda.
