The 2024 edition of the All African Women Poetry Festival (AAWPFestival), themed “Poetry and Play,” will celebrate the centenary of Efua Theodora Sutherland, a renowned Ghanaian playwright, poet, and cultural activist.
 
The festival will take place from May 23 to 26, 2024, at the W.E.B. at the  Du Bois Centre in Accra.
 
Efua Sutherland’s legacy in literature, child development, and cultural activism will be honored through a variety of events, including workshops, dialogue sessions, performances, and film screenings.

The Accra Technical University (ATU) and the Accra Marriott Hotel have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to provide practical training for ATU students in Hotel, Catering, and Institutional Management.
 
The agreement also involves developing industry-relevant curricula and certifying Marriott staff.
 
Prof. Amevi Acakpovi and Mr. Luciano Scelza signed the MOU, aiming to benefit students, faculty, and the hospitality industry.
 
The partnership will be regularly reviewed for improvements, emphasizing practical training, internships, and professional development.

The Macallan is marking its 200th anniversary by entering Ghana’s luxury whisky market, reflecting a wider trend of increasing demand for luxury goods in Africa.
 
The brand is actively engaging Ghana’s elite through initiatives like The Macallan Society, offering exclusive events to deepen appreciation for its products.
 
Their 200th-anniversary campaign, “200 Years Young,” celebrates heritage while embracing innovation and resonates with a diverse African audience.
 
Overall, The Macallan’s entry into Ghana’s luxury whisky market is expected to stimulate similar growth across the continent.

 
On the international front
 
The Greenbank Hotel has purchased The Falmouth Hotel in Cornwall, UK, for £7.5m ($9.53m).
 
Savills facilitated the sale on behalf of Richardson Hotels.
 
The Grade II Listed hotel boasts 71 en-suite bedrooms, a spa, gym, indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and treatment rooms.
 
It includes the Castle Restaurant, a bar, and three function rooms for up to 170 guests.
 
Overlooking Castle Beach and close to the beach, the hotel enjoys a prime location in Falmouth.
