Asheville Regional Airport Reports Record-Breaking Year with 22% Increase in Passenger Traffic

Let’s get started

Government has initiated steps towards implementing a visa-free policy for all Africans this year.

President Akufo-Addo of Ghana announced this during the opening of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogue in Accra.

Currently, only a few African countries, such as Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin, offer visa-free entry for all citizens of the continent.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving visa-free access for all Africans.

He also mentioned the reduction of the visa acquisition fee by 50% for the conference attendees.

The president expressed the government’s dedication to ensuring visa-free entry for all Africans traveling to Ghana, with the process already underway for the policy’s implementation in the current year.

Africa’s Peace, Investment, and Tourism Summit is an annual event in Accra, scheduled for April 15 to 17, focusing on unity and development.

The summit aims to cultivate a positive environment and empower individuals for a peaceful future, with a special focus on investment and tourism.

Organized in partnership with various international organizations, the event seeks to identify investment opportunities for economic growth and community development.

Leadership and breakout sessions will inspire participants to be catalysts for positive change in their communities.

Notable personalities, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, will be in attendance.

The summit provides a platform for community and political leaders to showcase potentials and engage investors for industrialization and job creation.

The Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi will showcase gold and silver regalia associated with the Asante royal court.

This follows a long-term loan commitment from the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) and the British Museum.

This collaboration follows an official visit to London by the Asantehene (King of Asante) Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last year.

Items, many unseen in Ghana for 150 years, will be displayed at the Manhyia Palace Museum in an exhibition

The exhibition will commemorate the 2024 Silver Jubilee of the Asantehene and mark the 150th anniversary of the 1873-4 Anglo-Ashanti war and the 100th anniversary of the return of the Asantehene Prempeh I from exile in the Seychelles.

The objects have cultural and historical significance for the Asante people and are tied to British colonial history, having been looted during the 19th-century Anglo-Asante wars.

In international news

Asheville Regional Airport in the US experienced a record-breaking year with the highest number of travelers passing through its gates in 2023.

In July, the airport surpassed its previous busiest year in 2022 by over 400,000 passengers, reaching a total of 2.2 million travelers. T
This marks a significant 22% increase from the previous year.

July alone set a single-month record with 244,504 passengers, making it the third busiest airport in North Carolina.
Asheville Regional Airport attributes this remarkable growth to the region’s prominence as a tourist destination and the strong preference of local travelers for flying.

Despite the challenges posed by such rapid expansion, the airport managed to add three new nonstop flight options in 2023, bringing the total to 27 destinations— the highest in its history.
