Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged an end to the Accra redevelopment policy, asserting that it has been extensively misused by high-ranking officials for personal gain since 1999.
He argues that the policy, designed to redevelop residential properties, has displaced public and civil servants, as well as government officials, in favor of private developers and luxury apartments.
Referring to a judge’s opinion, he emphasized the negative impact on officials, including judges and medical professionals, who were essential to emergency response.
Mr. Ablakwa criticized the lack of transparency in land sales and distribution and called for a policy review to ensure accountability and transparency.

Engel & Völkers released its 2023 Year-End Luxury Real Estate Market Report, revealing insights on homes priced over $1 million in Canadian metropolitan markets.
Despite market concerns and a foreign buyer ban in 2023, Toronto saw 31 sales over $8 million, doubling from 2019.
Overall, luxury real estate markets in Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver demonstrated stability amid global challenges.
Engel & Völkers anticipates this stability to continue until the Bank of Canada lowers interest rates, expected in spring 2024.
The firm believes this shift will boost buyer confidence and create a more competitive market, particularly in the latter half of 2024.
