Airbnb’s Investment in Africa: Empowering Communities and Sustainable Tourism

Airbnb is making a commitment to support economic empowerment, digital access, and sustainability in Africa through a series of initiatives:

Funding Non-Profit Organizations: Airbnb will invest $500,000 in non-profit organizations in Africa that work toward these goals.
They will collaborate with local stakeholders to identify deserving organizations, and grants will be distributed through the Airbnb

In conclusive Tourism Growth White Paper: In 2024, Airbnb plans to release an “Inclusive Tourism Growth White Paper” to assist African countries in identifying opportunities within the tourism sector and policy that promote inclusive and sustainable tourism across the continent.

City Portal Access:

Airbnb is expanding access to its City Portal to 10 more African countries. The City Portal is a unique resource that provides data, insights, and tools to local authorities and tourism organizations, helping them understand the impact and opportunities of Airbnb in their communities.

Local Host and Guest Guides:

Airbnb, in collaboration with destination marketing organizations, will create guides for local hosts and guests. These guides will aim to enhance the visitor experience and encourage responsible and positive behavior from guests.

Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy:

This program, already available in South Africa and Kenya, will be extended to five more countries over the next two years. The Academy focuses on entrepreneurship development and introduces individuals from diverse and underrepresented communities to hosting on Airbnb, in collaboration with local community partners.
